Senator Sends Letters to Three Tech Giants
Sen. Josh Hawley from Missouri is looking into three big tech companies because he's worried about privacy.
He wrote letters to Motorola Solutions Inc., Verkada Inc., and Axon Enterprise Inc.
"I'm concerned about how your AI cameras collect information from car license plates," Hawley said in his letters.
Hawley wants these firms to tell him more about their use of vehicle data. He asked them if they have any cases where this data was used improperly since 2021, and what steps they take to protect searches.
Axon told Sen. Hawley that they are happy to show how much they care about safety and innovation.
In Florida and Texas, governors ordered the removal of cameras from roads because people were worried about their privacy.
Flock Safety's AI system helps police track vehicles with its cameras. Right now, there are around 120,000 Flock Safety cameras in every state except Alaska.
Hawley’s investigation is unusual because it shows that both Republicans and far-left activists agree on one thing: they don't like these cameras.
