WWE Champion Cody Rhodes announced Tuesday that his dog, Pharaoh, has died.

Rhodes posted a long tribute on Instagram. It included photos of him, his wife Brandi, and their children with the husky over the years.

"He was a good boy," Rhodes wrote. "My best man."

Rhodes described Pharaoh as a loyal companion through hard times. He wrote that during a personal crisis, the dog "sat outside with me looking at the Texas stars" and "pressed his head against me firmly in a way that let me know he understood."

Pharaoh was a Siberian Husky. Rhodes said the dog found his true purpose when the couple's daughter, Liberty, was born. Looking back at old photos, Rhodes noticed Pharaoh appearing in almost every early picture of her.

"His job was to be with her," Rhodes wrote. "Maybe he wanted to protect her."

Pharaoh was well known to wrestling fans. He appeared on WWE programming before Rhodes walked to the ring. At a convention called Starrcast in Schaumburg, Illinois, fans parted to let the dog through the lobby and chanted his name. Rhodes wrote the hotel even posted a special menu item called "Pharaoh's fries."

Pharaoh also did charity meet and greets at animal shelters across the country. He had his own Mattel action figure and was a brand partner with Chewy, the pet supply company.

Rhodes closed his tribute with a farewell. "You did your job," he wrote. "We love you."

Wrestlers and celebrities filled the comments with condolences. Among them were The Miz, Renee Paquette, Lillian Garcia, and Nick Jackson.

If you have a pet you love, consider supporting your local animal shelter in Pharaoh's memory. Many shelters have volunteer and donation programs you can find through their websites.
