Cedar Park, Texas police arrested a wanted Venezuelan national on September 5. A tip from a public fugitive watchlist led officers to him. The warrant for his arrest had been active since March.
The suspect is Fermin Alejandro Calles Garcia, 24 years old. He is from Venezuela. Authorities say he entered the United States illegally. Travis County officials issued the warrant for his arrest in March 2025. He has been charged with sexual assault of a child. He has also been charged with stalking and misdemeanor assault causing bodily injury. He has not been convicted of any of these charges.
Calles Garcia had been placed on a state fugitive list. The list is called the Texas DPS 10 Most Wanted Criminal Illegal Immigrant List. It asks the public to report illegal alien fugitives. A tipster used that list and called in Calles Garcia's location. Cedar Park officers stopped the vehicle he was in. Special agents from the DPS Criminal Investigations Division also helped with the arrest.
The anonymous tipster will receive a $3,000 reward. Texas DPS had offered that amount when Calles Garcia was added to the list.
Nine other fugitives on that same list remain at large. Their alleged offenses include murder and sexual abuse of young children. Some are also accused of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Others face charges for failing to register as a sex offender. These are allegations, not convictions. Texas is offering up to $7,500 for tips leading to each arrest.
Critics of open border policies point to cases like this. They say unchecked illegal immigration puts the public at risk. When a person crosses the border illegally, no background check takes place. That means any prior criminal history may go unknown. Texas DPS created the most wanted list to address that problem. It coordinates with local police to track down fugitives who might otherwise stay hidden.
Calles Garcia is now in custody and will face his charges in court.
